There are times when a child may benefit from one-on-one therapy in lieu of (or in addition to) a peer modeling program or social skills group. We will partner with you to determine whether individual therapy may be beneficial for your child and what particular skills should be addressed. Therapy will take place at our offices in Wall Township.
Licensed Associate Counselor and Nationally Certified Counselor Amy L. Amy is also available to provide parent education as well as for review, support, and modification of your IEP/504.
Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy
A customized ABA/Verbal Behavior program is prepared for each child based on their assessments and particular needs. The individualized curricula will address the academic, communicative, social, and self-management skills necessary for effective interaction as well as social and school success.
School/Camp Social Skills Evaluation
We would be happy to observe your child at play in his or her natural environment. We will evaluate his interactions with friends and peers and prepare a detailed report with recommendations for specific areas of improvement. We will then work with you to implement a specific learning approach and develop goals that can be attained through one or more social skills programs. This may include classroom modifications or other changes within the school setting.
Parent Directed Social Skills Programming
As an alternative to therapist led programming, a parent can choose to implement social skills training where they act as their child’s teacher. There are many parents who are comfortable with this approach and for those who are it provides a more convenient and lower cost option. It also allows us to provide services to families anywhere in the United States.
The approach and the social skill lessons are the same – individualized and customized for your child. We provide the guidance and tools necessary to implement your program. Lessons are reviewed so that the parent feels comfortable and confident. It is ideal if there is a peer model available to work with you and your child, but if not, the lessons will be modified so that you can teach the skills without a peer. Parents are their children’s best and most important teachers. When they know what to teach, they can effectively and consistently provide learning opportunities for their children and provide them with valuable, lifelong social skills.
